Island Time

It just doesn't get any better than this. The sun shines, the coconut palms sway and your cocktail is only a hand's reach away. There's no doubt about it, you're in paradise!

On Aitutaki, and all over the Cook Islands, we have a saying "You're on Island Time".  And what does this mean?  Simply this.relax, breathe in the fresh air, stare in to space and smile.  There's no need to do anything right now, and if you really have to do something, then do it slowly.  Just enjoy the moment.

Our Weather

Weather on Aitutaki is warm and sunny almost all year round.  It's often humid but our temperate island breezes refresh and revive. Visitors make the most of the island climate to get out an about on the lagoon during the day and visit restaurants, bars and Island nights of Cook Island dancing and song in the evening.

Getting here

Getting to the island of Aitutaki is a breeze.  Part of the southern group of the Cook Islands, it is officially called a coral atoll.  Just 220 kilometres north of the Cooks Island capital Rarotonga, the island is a short 45 minute flight north. The Cook Island's national air service, Air Rarotonga, flies you here in our modern SAAB 340 30-seater aircraft.  Flying out over the Pacific Ocean to arrive beside the Aitutaki lagoon is unbelievable.

A Flying History

Aitutaki used to be the Cook Island's first point of entry. Pioneering air travelers visited Aitutaki in the fifties. Tasman Empire Airways Ltd (TEAL), which later became Air New Zealand, used to land their Solent flying boats on Aitutaki lagoon.  This was known as part of the renowned Coral Route between New Zealand and Tahiti.

Day Tours

While we recommend staying on Aitutaki for at least a week to take in all the sights and truly relax, many visitors choose to take the popular Aitutaki day-trip.  Our day trip deal includes your flight and all day lagoon tour to snorkel the beautiful lagoon, see its many marvels and sample a fresh fish bbq lunch.

Where to stay

There's plenty of variety when it comes to places to stay. Choose from simple, budget accommodation to a full service luxury resort.  All are set amongst the island's stunning natural environment.
